Hubberston Fort

Hubberston Fort is a 19th-century coastal defence fortification located on high ground overlooking Gelliswick Bay near Milford Haven. Built between 1863 and 1865 as part of the Palmerston Forts scheme to protect against perceived French invasion, the fort originally accommodated 250 men and was designed for multiple tiers of heavy artillery. During World War II, American forces constructed a transit hospital behind the fort to treat casualties from the D-Day landings. Now owned by Milford Haven Port Authority, the remains of this Grade II* listed structure showcase Victorian military engineering and represent an important chapter in Britain's 19th-century coastal defence strategy.
