Golden Hill Fort

Golden Hill Fort is a hexagonal defensible barracks built between 1863 and 1872 on the Isle of Wight's western end as part of the Palmerston defences. Designed to provide manpower for the adjacent fort network and cover other western defences against landward attack, the fort accommodated 8 officers and 128 men with its own hospital. The distinctive structure features a tunnel through the glacis leading to a central parade ground surrounded by barrack blocks, with gun positions on the roof at each angle. Now beautifully converted into 18 luxury residential units and designated Grade I listed, Golden Hill Fort sits within 50 acres of Golden Hill Country Park, seamlessly blending historic military heritage with modern living.
