Golden Hill Fort - Antonine Wall

Golden Hill Fort, situated within Golden Hill Park in Duntocher near Clydebank, represents the westernmost visible remains of the Antonine Wall, a monumental Roman frontier built around AD 140. This compact Roman fort, the smallest on the 37-mile wall, has been carefully preserved with wildflower-planted outlines marking its original layout. Archaeological excavations have revealed significant artefacts including an altar to Jupiter and a statue of a water nymph from the adjacent bathhouse, providing valuable insight into Roman occupation. The park's prominent hilltop position offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, while a recently installed Roman-themed playground enhances visitor experience at this UNESCO World Heritage site.
