Glinsk Castle

Glinsk Castle, built around 1628, is reputed to be the last castle constructed in Ireland and stands as a National Monument in County Galway. This rectangular tower house features two distinctive towers protruding to the south and is constructed on limestone overlooking the countryside, with vantage points encompassing all five counties of Connacht. Originally the seat of the Burke baronets, the castle was gutted by fire during the Cromwellian wars, which left its structure well preserved. Today accessible to the public with a key available from a nearby house, Glinsk represents a unique snapshot of late medieval Irish fortification design.
