Glengarnock Castle

Glengarnock Castle is a ruined fortress in North Ayrshire dating from the 15th century, situated on a remote rocky promontory overlooking the River Garnock approximately two miles north of Kilbirnie. The castle exemplifies a keep-with-courtyard design, likely built by the Cunningham family and later visited by Mary, Queen of Scots in 1563. Set roughly 100 feet above the river in a ravine, the castle remains accessible only via a man-made causeway. The ruins were stabilized in 1841 following storm damage and require sturdy footwear and effort to reach due to challenging terrain and limited parking nearby.
