Garrison Point Fort

Garrison Point Fort stands at the strategic confluence of the River Medway and Thames on the Isle of Sheppey in Kent, built between 1861 and 1872 during the period of French invasion concerns. This rare two-tiered casemated fortification, one of only two examples of its era in England, was constructed from concrete, granite, and brick. Originally armed with 9-inch and 10-inch Rifled Muzzle Loading guns and featuring a Brennan Torpedo Station from 1884, the fort remained operational until 1956. Now used by Sheerness Docks as a port installation, the structure faces gradual deterioration and is listed on the Heritage at Risk Register.
