Fulton Tower

Fulton Tower is a ruined 16th-century tower house located approximately 4.5 miles southwest of Jedburgh in the Scottish Borders, near Hawick. Built in the late 1500s following an earlier tower's destruction during the War of the Rough Wooing, this oblong structure measures approximately 6.9 metres by 9.3 metres with a projecting circular stair-tower. The tower was constructed from roughly coursed rubble, and its walls stand to an average height of 5.5 metres, retaining parts of two incomplete storeys from its original three-storey design. Two oval gun-loops facing northwest on the ground floor demonstrate its defensive purpose. Ownership passed from the Hume family to the powerful Border family the Turnbulls during the 16th century, making it a significant artifact of turbulent Border history.
