Fuerte de Ametzagaña represents 19th-century military engineering built in response to the Carlist Wars threatening the Basque Country. Constructed in 1875 during the final Carlist conflict, this fortress once defended Donostia-San Sebastián from royalist forces attempting to capture the Uba convent and surrounding strategic positions. Strategically positioned atop a hill between neighborhoods of Egia, Loiola, and Intxaurrondo, the fort featured a rectangular plan, surrounding moat, thick parapets, and cannon emplacements. Decommissioned in 1891, the consolidated ruins now form part of the Ametzagaña park, where visitors can explore both the historical fortification remains and natural parkland attractions.
