Freyenthurn Castle

Freyenthurn Castle crowns the southern slopes of Falkenberg hill in Klagenfurt, commanding panoramic views across the landscape. King Ferdinand I's treasurer Hans Angerer commissioned its construction in 1541 and received permission to add 'zu Freyenthurn' to his name upon completion, establishing himself as a prominent nobleman. The original Renaissance architecture reflects early 16th-century refinement, yet the castle underwent significant transformation in the 19th century with Victorian modifications and, in 1884, major renovations that integrated Tudor architectural elements into its present character. Today the castle functions as a sophisticated event venue nestled in Klagenfurt's picturesque surroundings, offering breathtaking views and access to scenic hiking trails on nearby Kreuzbergl.
