Framlingham Castle in Suffolk was built in the 12th century and is renowned as the site where Mary I was proclaimed Queen of England in 1553 during her bid for the throne following Edward VI's death. The castle features 13 imposing mural towers and stone walls dating from 1213, which served as the residence of the Dukes of Norfolk for over 400 years and later housed a workhouse during the 17th to 19th centuries. Today managed by English Heritage, visitors can walk atop the castle's defensive walls to experience 800 years of history while enjoying views across the Suffolk countryside.
