Fort Stevens State Park is a 4,300-acre historic coastal installation near Astoria, Oregon, that guarded the mouth of the Columbia River beginning in 1865. The fort gained historical significance as the only American military installation fired upon by enemy forces since the War of 1812, when it was attacked by a Japanese submarine in June 1942. The park features an earthen fort, artillery gun batteries, an interpretive museum, and access to an historic shipwreck.
