The Fort of El Desnarigado stands on the northeastern coast of Ceuta, named after a Berber figure from local legend. Originally a watchtower constructed by Arabs, the site was utilized by Portuguese forces after their arrival in 1415, then transformed into a modern fortification in 1693 under General Bernardo Barona. The current structure dates to the 19th century, designed by engineer José de Ramón Carbonell. Today, the fortress houses the Military History Museum of Ceuta, preserving artifacts that document the region's complex military heritage across centuries. Now protected under Spanish Historical Heritage Law, the site remains an active military installation with visits requiring prior group arrangement.
