Fort de Dave

Fort de Dave is a historic military fortress located approximately 5 kilometres south of Namur, Belgium, built between 1888 and 1892 according to the designs of General Henri Alexis Brialmont. Constructed of unreinforced concrete in a distinctive triangular shape, it overlooks the Meuse River and features a 6-metre deep ditch encircling its perimeter. The fort played a crucial role in Belgian defenses, experiencing intense German bombardment during the 1914 Battle of Namur and again during the 1940 Battle of Belgium. Currently abandoned on state property, the fort remains closed to public access due to safety concerns related to its deteriorated structural condition, making it an important historical landmark protected for future restoration efforts.
