Fort de Boncelles

Fort de Boncelles is one of the twelve Liège fortifications constructed between 1881 and 1884 under General Henri Alexis Brialmont's direction. Built entirely of unreinforced concrete—a revolutionary material at the time—this fort represents a significant advancement in military engineering. The fort was upgraded in the 1930s to counter the German threat and saw intense action in 1940 during the Battle of Belgium before being captured by German forces. Today the fort stands partially buried amid residential housing, yet restoration efforts are underway to preserve this historical structure.
