Fort 6

Fort 6 in Wilrijk was built between 1860 and 1864 as part of Belgium's first line of defensive fortifications protecting Antwerp, following the strategic plan of military engineer Henri Alexis Brialmont. The fort consists of a freely accessible domain featuring remains of the historic structure and its surrounding moat, which visitors can explore by walking the grounds. Currently, the domain is operated by the University of Antwerp, which hosts a campus and top-sports school on the property. While the above-ground portions are completely open to the public, access to the underground sections remains limited, though visitors may still walk the perimeter and enjoy the moat area.
