Ferns Castle

Ferns Castle stands as one of Ireland's most impressive Norman fortifications, built around 1200 by William, Earl Marshall in County Wexford. Originally forming a square with substantial corner towers, approximately half remains today, showcasing a magnificent vaulted ceiling considered among Ireland's finest architectural achievements. The most complete tower houses a beautiful circular chapel, original fireplaces and a vaulted basement accessible by guided tour. The adjoining visitor center displays the remarkable Ferns Tapestry, a 15-meter embroidered work of 25 panels created by local community members depicting pre-Norman Celtic heritage using traditional crewel wool techniques.
