Fermoselle's Castle (Castillo de Doña Urraca) dates to the early 13th century and gained renown as the refuge of Portuguese Princess Doña Urraca after her marriage annulment with León's monarch Fernando II. Perched dramatically on clifftops near the confluence of the Tormes and Duero rivers, close to the Portuguese border, this strategic stronghold played a pivotal role during the 16th-century War of the Communities as a Comuneros bastion. Though largely ruined, the castle has been restored and reopened as a public viewpoint accessible from Fermoselle's Plaza Mayor, offering panoramic vistas of the Arribes del Duero landscape, particularly striking at sunset.
