Faro de Isla Verde

The Faro de Isla Verde is an octagonal stone lighthouse standing on an island that has been incorporated into the Port of Algeciras. Designed and built by engineer Jaime Font in 1863 and inaugurated in 1864, the structure rises nine meters from a single-story keeper's house, featuring a balcony and lantern with grey dome. The tower's focal plane sits 26 meters above mean sea level, constructed from stone plastered with lime, with a white-painted tower body. Though deactivated in the 1980s and replaced by modern port marking systems, the lighthouse remains historically significant as a testament to 19th-century maritime navigation infrastructure, though public access is restricted due to its location within the Port of Algeciras security zone.
