El Clascar

El Clascar, also known as Castell de Bertí, is a ruined fortified structure in Sant Quirze Safaja, Barcelona province, positioned dramatically at the top of the Cingles de Bertí cliffs. Documented from 978, this medieval castle was later modified as a fortified house, with the Clascar surname first appearing in 1370 under the Centelles family domain. In the early 20th century, the Almirall family attempted an ambitious transformation into a fanciful castle featuring a distinctive circular tower, though the work remained incomplete. Protected as a Cultural Asset of National Interest since 1949, the site preserves evidence of medieval occupation and archaeological findings including Iberian ceramic fragments, offering a window into the region's complex medieval history.
