Dunster Castle is a dramatic country house perched atop a 200-foot high motte-and-bailey fortification overlooking the village of Dunster in Somerset, offering spectacular views toward the Bristol Channel and Exmoor moors. Founded in the late Anglo-Saxon period and built as a classic Norman fortress by William de Mohun after 1066, the castle remained home to 18 generations of the Luttrell family from 1405 until 1976, who continuously remodelled it in contemporary styles. Now managed by the National Trust, the castle features internationally significant painted leather hangings depicting the Antony and Cleopatra love story, period furnishings, and an adjacent 18th-century working watermill.
