Duncraig Castle is a striking Scottish baronial mansion built in 1866 by architect Alexander Ross for Scottish Member of Parliament Alexander Matheson, situated in Lochalsh on the south shore of Loch Carron east of Plockton. The three-storey listed building features an asymmetrical nine-bay design with distinctive gables and crenellations, commanding spectacular views north across Loch Carron to the mountains of Applecross and Torridon, with the peaks of Skye's Cuillins visible in the distance. Following Matheson's death, the castle served various purposes including as a domestic science college before becoming a private residence. The surrounding woodland supports pine martens and red squirrels, while seals and otters are regular visitors to the foreshore below the castle.
