Dromaneen Castle

Dromaneen Castle is a fortified Jacobean mansion located 5 kilometers west of Mallow on the south bank of the Munster Blackwater in County Cork. Built around 1610 by Caher O'Callaghan to replace an older tower house, it served as one of three principal castles of the O'Callaghan clan. The castle is notable for having hosted Papal Nuncio Rinunicci in 1642 and survives today as a National Monument, bearing testament to 17th-century architectural ambitions and the political prominence of Munster's Gaelic nobility during the final decades of independent Irish rule.
