Davalillo Castle

Davalillo Castle is a 13th-century Romanesque fortress perched on a hillside overlooking the Ebro River valley in La Rioja. One of Spain's few remaining Romanesque castles, it was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest for its historical and architectural significance. Originally built as a strategic defense point for the Kingdom of Navarre, the castle's polygonal, seven-sided stone structure features a square homage tower with four floors and a chapel on the ground level. Located approximately 5 kilometers from San Asensio, the castle's elevated position allowed observation of lands spanning the Sonsierra and Rioja Alta regions. Now preserved by CVNE wine company, the castle continues to exemplify medieval military engineering and regional protection strategies.
