Dalquharran Castle

Dalquharran Castle near Dailly in South Ayrshire is a neoclassical mansion designed by the renowned architect Robert Adam and completed around 1790, built to replace the nearby Old Dalquharran Castle. Commissioned by Thomas Kennedy as a new ancestral seat for his family, the estate represents late 18th-century ambitions blended with centuries of Kennedy family heritage. Though stripped of its roof in the 1960s or 1970s and subsequently weathered, the masonry shell remains a prominent architectural landmark in rural Ayrshire. The surrounding landscape offers walking trails exploring the historic grounds where both the old ruins and new mansion tell the evolving story of the property's use and significance.
