Crookston Castle

Crookston Castle in Glasgow is a distinctive medieval stronghold erected by the Stewarts of Darnley around 1400, notable for its almost unique architectural design featuring a high central tower surrounded by four square corner towers. The castle's fortified earthworks date back to the 1100s, and after surviving a damaging siege in 1544, the structure was extensively repaired to its medieval form. Positioned on a hilltop at Brockburn Road, the castle offers excellent panoramic views across southeast Glasgow from its elevated vantage point. As the only surviving medieval castle within Glasgow's city limits, it stands as a significant reminder of the region's formerly rural landscape and remains open to the public under Historic Environment Scotland's stewardship.
