Cratloemoyle Castle

Cratloemoyle Castle stands as a remarkable 16th-century tower house rising over 65 feet near the Limerick-Ennis road in County Clare. This five-storey structure, likely built by the MacNamara Clan, features circular bartizans at its northeast and southeast corners and three large halls stacked vertically. Originally owned by Seán MacConmara in 1570, the castle later passed to the MacConmara chiefs before a final MacNamara occupancy. Purchased in 1973 by Irish American Bob Traynor, the castle has remained under private stewardship, representing a well-preserved example of medieval Irish clan architecture.
