Craigie Castle

Craigie Castle comprises ruins situated approximately four miles southeast of Kilmarnock in South Ayrshire, Scotland. This 13th-century groin-vaulted hall house represents one of the earliest buildings in the county, later remodelled in the 15th century into a tower house with surrounding outbuildings. Originally built for the Lyndesay or Lindsay clan, Craigie Castle passed around 1371 to John Wallace of Riccarton through marriage, becoming home to this prominent line of Ayrshire Wallaces until they relocated to Newton Castle in Ayr in 1588. The very ruined remains stand on a grassy knoll surrounded by remnants of a defensive ditch. Though not actively open for formal tours, the castle's impressive stone structure remains viewable from the outside, offering insight into medieval Ayrshire fortifications and clan history.
