Fort Copacabana is a military base and historic fortress located at the southern end of Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, housing the Museu Histórico do Exército (Army Historical Museum). Built between 1908 and 1914, the fort represented the most advanced fortification in Latin America at the time of its completion, featuring two armored cupolas equipped with Krupp cannons of 305 mm and 190 mm caliber. The structure boasts iconic iron-plated windows and 39-foot-thick walls designed to withstand coastal attacks. Today the fort remains an active military base open to the public, featuring museum exhibits spanning colonial through modern periods, a bar and restaurant with Copacabana Beach views, and panoramic vistas of Rio de Janeiro's harbor.
