Coity Castle

Coity Castle is a Norman fortress in Bridgend, Wales, built around 1126 by Sir Payn de Turberville, one of the legendary Twelve Knights of Glamorgan. The castle evolved from a late 11th-century ringwork into a substantial structure featuring a rectangular stone keep and curtain wall, with extensive 14th-century domestic additions. Subsequent modifications in the early 15th century added a new west gate and south tower gatehouse. The Turberville family held the site until 1384, followed by the Berkerolles and Gamages families who made further enhancements. Now managed by Cadw and open daily, the ruins showcase the evolution of medieval Welsh-Norman military and domestic architecture.
