Chillingham Castle is a medieval fortress in Northumberland built in the 12th century as a monastery, later becoming the seat of the Grey and Bennet families from the 15th century. The castle features impressive battlements, dungeons, and a chapel reflecting its military and religious heritage. King Edward I visited in 1298 during his Scottish campaign, and subsequent monarchs including Henry III, James I, and Charles I graced the fortress. The surrounding 600-acre park contains wild white cattle descended from herds enclosed since 1220, representing a unique ecological heritage. Today the castle operates as a visitor attraction renowned for ghost stories and paranormal investigations, drawing tourists interested in both history and folklore during its seasonal opening from Easter to October.
