Château Montbéliard, officially the Château des Ducs de Wurtemberg, served as a residence of the German Dukes of Württemberg for over four centuries from 1397 to 1793. Built on a rocky promontory overlooking the Lizaine and Allan valleys, this Alemannic fortress evolved continuously from its 10th-century origins into a formidable stronghold. The castle showcases the Henriette Tower, Frédéric Tower, and an 18th-century main building. Today, it houses a comprehensive museum featuring collections dedicated to history, archaeology, natural sciences, and contemporary art, having recently reopened in December 2024 with a new historical circuit.
