Château de Vizille, a 17th-century stronghold 15 kilometres south of Grenoble, served as the residence of the Dukes of Lesdiguières before becoming the Musée de la Révolution française in 1983. Founded in 1619 and historically significant as the Assembly of Vizille gathering place in 1788, it now houses the world's only museum dedicated entirely to the French Revolution, displaying paintings, sculptures, and engravings spanning revolutionary history. The surrounding 100-hectare Domaine de Vizille, designated a Remarkable Garden, provides a verdant setting for this culturally important institution, with both museum and gardens free to enter.
