Château de Serrant is a Renaissance masterpiece situated in the Loire Valley, 15 kilometres west of Angers, and represents one of the largest inhabited châteaux in the Loire all year round. Originally constructed in the 13th century as a medieval fortress, it was transformed starting in 1539 when Pean de Brie converted it into an elegant Renaissance château following his return from the Italian Wars. The castle features a remarkable library containing over 12,000 period books and kitchens with 200 copper pans, while its chapel was designed by the architect of Versailles' Hall of Mirrors and houses the impressive mausoleum of the Marquis de Vaubrun. The private residence of the Prince of Merode, it remains open to visitors and is rated three-stars in the Michelin Guide for its exceptional art and furniture collections.
