Château de Pompadour is an 11th-century fortress in Arnac-Pompadour, Corrèze, with origins dating to the year 1000. The castle features powerful medieval volumes, continuous wall walks, and towers topped with distinctive pepperpot roofs. In 1745, Louis XV offered the château to his mistress, the Marquise de Pompadour, who never inhabited it but established the renowned Haras de Pompadour stud farm in 1760. Owned by the National Stud since 1872, the castle now functions as a heritage site and cultural venue where eleven furnished rooms are open to visitors, including period libraries and tapestry collections. The château hosts equestrian spectacles and seasonal events, blending its rich history with contemporary cultural programming.
