Château de Montignac

Château de Montignac is a ruined medieval fortress in Montignac-Charente, with origins dating to the 9th century during Norman invasions. The castle was rebuilt several times in the 12th and 13th centuries and now preserves its impressive keep tower overlooking the Charente River, along with remains of a fortified compound featuring two towers. Though no longer open to the public for regular visits, the structure remains visible from the esplanade and occasionally hosts special demonstrations and exhibitions. Listed as a historic monument since 1962, it represents an important chapter in the region's medieval military architecture.
