Château de Mauriac

Château de Mauriac, situated in Douzillac, Dordogne, stands as a 15th and 16th-century structure built upon the remains of a Gallo-Roman mansion and medieval fortress. The rectangular main house is framed by two impressive round towers with machicolations, representing the expansion of an original enclosure that once included eight towers, a dungeon, and chapel. The château overlooks the Isle River and historic dam that formerly powered a mill. Classified as a Historic Monument since 1948 and extended in 2016 to include surrounding buildings and park, the estate—formerly owned by the Talleyrand-Périgord family—welcomes public visitors to its gardens and terrace from April to October.
