Château de Mareuil, reconstructed in flamboyant Gothic style during the early 15th century by Geoffroy de Mareuil, rose from the ruins of a medieval stronghold destroyed in the Hundred Years' War. Serving as seat of one of Périgord's four great baronies, the castle presents an imposing silhouette at the entrance to Mareuil within the Périgord-Limousin Regional Natural Park. Its interior chambers feature refined Louis XV, Louis XVI, and Regency furnishings and paintings, while a remarkable late medieval chapel showcases elegant Gothic architecture.
