Château de la Rochebeaucourt is a historic fortress located at the border between Charente and Dordogne, originally constructed in the 9th century with a square tower built by the Villebois to guard the feudal Angoulême-Périgueux road. A second castle was erected by the Rochebeaucourt family in the 13th century, and following capture during the Hundred Years' War, it was transformed during the Renaissance with sling windows and an orangery added by François de La Rochebeaucourt, who welcomed King Charles IX in 1565. Rebuilt in neo-Renaissance style between 1853 and 1859, the château was devastated by fire in 1941, leaving the monumental foundations and Orangery building as protected heritage monuments since 1990.
