Château de Hautefort is a classical Renaissance château located in the Dordogne region of France, renowned for being the only classical château in Périgord. Originally built around the year 1000 as a medieval fortress and transformed during the 17th century into an elegant palace, the château features a distinctive symmetrical design with a central corps de logis flanked by circular towers, reminiscent of Loire Valley châteaux. The castle survived the French Revolution thanks to local support, and after a devastating 1968 fire, underwent exemplary restoration. Its magnificent gardens, listed among France's Notable Gardens, include French formal gardens, geometric flower beds, topiary, and an Italian garden with shaded paths.
