Château de Fontaine

Château de Fontaine in Onhaye occupies a strategic location at the intersection of major routes connecting Namur to Luxembourg and Dinant to Liège, positioning it within centuries of regional commerce and communication. Founded in the 13th century as the seat of the seigniory of Fontaine, the estate encompassed jurisdiction over Anthée, Morville, and Miavoye as part of the County of Namur and the Prince-Bishopric of Liège. The limestone structure displays a distinctive U-shaped plan open to the south with corner towers, built in stages during the 16th century with additional structures added in subsequent centuries. A thoughtful neo-traditional renovation between 1907 and 1909 preserved its historic character while enhancing functionality, maintaining the château's presence as an architectural landmark reflecting medieval feudal organization and early modern refinement.
