Château de Chokier

Château de Chokier is a Renaissance-style reconstruction of a medieval fortress rising dramatically from a limestone cliff above the Meuse River valley in Flémalle-Haute, Belgium. Originally founded in the 13th century by the Rulant de Fontaine family, the castle withstood numerous attacks and underwent significant rebuilding in the late 14th century. For centuries it remained in the hands of the distinguished Surlet de Chokier family, whose members played notable roles in Belgian history, including the Regency of Belgium in 1831. The structure features classical facades with symmetrical wings forming an imposing composition that commands the landscape, dominating the village of Chokier.
