Château de Canchy

Château de Canchy is a fortified castle located in the commune of Canchy in Calvados, Normandy, strategically positioned in medieval times alongside the Château de Colombières to defend against invasion from the sea. The fortress, reconstructed in the 16th century by the lords of Canchy, originally featured a square layout surrounded by water-filled moats. Today, one side of the original structure remains intact, measuring 100 meters in length with buildings featuring square pavilions at the center containing both small and large gates on the ground floor. Following confiscation during the Revolution and its subsequent transformation into an agricultural operation, the castle was recovered by descendants of the original lords and remains in family hands as a monument to Normandy's medieval heritage.
