Château de Bouteville

Château de Bouteville, built on the site of a Gallo-Roman villa, represents one of Charente's most historically significant strongholds, with first fortification dating to around 1000. The imposing ruin reflects its pivotal Middle Ages role and later 17th-century luxury; English forces held it during the Hundred Years' War and the Black Prince stayed regularly before the French recaptured and partially dismantled it in 1392. Recently restored and inaugurated in June 2024, the château now functions as a versatile event venue hosting weddings, seminars, and celebrations within its atmospheric reception spaces. The restoration honors centuries of architectural evolution while adapting the castle for contemporary cultural and private gatherings.
