Château de Bellocq is a 13th-century fortress strategically positioned on the banks of the Gave de Pau in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques region. Constructed between 1250 and 1280 under the direction of Gaston VII de Béarn to secure the border with Guyenne, the castle features an irregular quadrilateral plan flanked by seven towers without a central keep. The fortifications were strengthened by Gaston Fébus in 1370 and subsequently modified by Henri II d'Albret in 1542 to counter Spanish invasion threats. Though partially destroyed by Louis XIII in 1620 to prevent Protestant occupation and dismantled in 1622, the ruins stand as a testament to medieval Béarnese military architecture and regional power struggles.
