Château d'Angers, one of France's best-preserved medieval fortresses, was founded in the 9th century by the Counts of Anjou and expanded in the 13th century. The castle's supreme treasure is the Apocalypse Tapestry, the world's largest medieval tapestry series at 103 meters long, featuring 71 scenes commissioned by Louis I around 1375. Now a museum housing the world's oldest and largest collection of medieval tapestries, it offers guided tours, exhibitions, and bird sanctuary experiences.
