Castrodouro Castle

Castillo de Castrodouro rises in the municipality of Alfoz, Lugo, built upon the site of a Roman castro from the 1st century and an earlier 9th-century monastery founded by a Castilian family. In the 15th century, the fortress became home to the influential Pardo de Cela family through a matrimonial alliance, achieving prominence during medieval Galician politics before passing to the Diocese of Mondoñedo in 1483. The castle's surviving keep, chapel, and remaining walls testify to its historical significance. Since the 19th century owned by Alfoz municipality, the castle has served as town hall, municipal court, and now houses a visitor center and museum, preserving Galician heritage as a protected historical site.
