Castledonovan

O'Donovan's Castle, also called Castledonovan, stands as the principal seat of the O'Donovan Clan in Drimoleague, County Cork, built in 1560 by Donal O'Donovan on a commanding rocky foundation. This substantial fortress measures 47 feet long and 61 feet high with 6-foot-thick walls, featuring multiple interior chambers for storage and defense, along with a well-defined parapet and heavy oak entrance. Strategically oriented to overlook the valley amid dramatic terrain, the castle now stands as romantic ruins included on the Wild Atlantic Way tourism route, preserving the heritage of West Cork's most prominent Gaelic families.
