Castle Stalker occupies an isolated tidal islet on Loch Laich in Argyll and Bute, positioned midway between Oban and Glen Coe. Originally a small fort built around 1320 by Clan MacDougall, Lords of Lorn, the castle acquired its current four-storey tower house form around the 1440s after the Stewarts gained control. The name derives from the Gaelic Stalcaire, meaning 'hunter' or 'falconer,' reflecting its historical purpose. Listed as a Category A building, it ranks among western Scotland's best preserved medieval tower houses, though its isolation at high tide and private ownership strictly limit public access to family-led summer tours.
