Castle Roy

Castle Roy, a 12th-century fortress built by Clan Comyn on a glacial mound near Nethy Bridge, represents one of Scotland's oldest unchanged castles of its type. This simple, irregular four-sided stronghold features walls still reaching 25 feet in height, a northwestern tower with an original window, and evidence of medieval sanitation facilities. The Clan Grant acquired the property in 1420 and remained its stewards. After extensive stabilization work and restoration completed in 2022, the castle now serves as a popular picnic and community venue, hosting weddings, events, and educational activities within grounds featuring paths, ponds, and wildflowers.
