Castle Rosmeulen in Tongeren is a unique blend of art nouveau and neorococco architecture commissioned by Florent Rosmeulen, owner of a former gingerbread and chocolate factory, beginning in 1913. The polygonal castle building is surrounded by landscaped grounds and accessed through a monumental entrance gate with a rococo-style bridge flanked by sphinx sculptures. Though construction was interrupted by World War I and financial difficulties, the castle's ornate facades feature bay windows, colonnades, balconies, stucco work, and a distinctive round corner tower topped with a copper dome.
